Correlation is not causation is not a true statement
Correlation is not causation! My pet peeve in logical fallacies. This is like saying an animal is not a bird. The statement is neither true nor false. It is indeterminate. SOME animals are birds. SOME
SOME are not birds. Slightly different, but by reversing we see how it works.
A bird IS an animal.
Just so, causation IS correlation. By definition. Without correlation, causation has no meaning.
If correlation were a Venn diagram, all of causation would be inside, just as all birds would be inside the venn circle called animals.
So… Some correlation is causation. Some is not causation.
Correlation implies causation, but needs more evidence to thoroughly establish it.
What evidence? Establish the causal mechanism, remove it from a sample, and evaluate the differences in the two groups. Controlled trial.
Correlation is not causation is sloppy language. Please don’t say it.
